Hi Band Members,
I know the band blog hasn't been updated for a long time but im here now.. Haha. I'll try to update as much as i can but if it comes to exam week please excuse me.
Anyways, i hope all band members will congratulate our new committee members for getting their roles.
I would like to shout a big CONGRATs to our new drum major, Najiha and our new band major, Bryan. Great job guys on becoming majors. :). Lastly, Carine High is coming next Tuesday so yeahh, let's show them what band can do and if you want buy presents for them to spread the love. <3That's all. I'll update when i can.

Hello there!
So far, we had usual band practices and on Friday,
some of our Woodgrove Band members went to see the CCHY Band SYF rehearsal at the SCH.
It was worth while though. And guess what?
We now know our band SYF competition date and day!!
Thanks to our band teacher, Mr Tai, WGSSB will be the 73th band on the 7th April!!
=) So practice hard band members and that's all for today.

Hey band mates!
Just updating shortly again;
We had our usual practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
On Wed, we were dismissed early because of Common Test week.
We are in the process of improving ourselves in playing both Set & Choice Piece after hearing our own recording and I hope we can make it by April! =)
Now we can focus more on our individual practice as Common Test is over already.
And don't forget to do your Reflection of last Sat SYF Rehearsal guys!
Tommorow's attire is Uniform.

Hello there!
I will update shortly as to what had happened last week.
We had practice as per normal on last Monday,Wednesday and Thursday.
On Saturday, we had our first and last SYF rehearsal.
Our normal practice start at 12.45pm at school and we had our dinner at around 4pm+
and soon leave the school for SCH at around 6.30pm.
Then our rehearsal ended and we went home at around 10pm,leaving the school.
Sorry for giving the wrong info in the previous post, we still have practice on Wed as the schedule is postpone and yesterday was the day that there is no Band prac due to common test week.
So Band resumes tomorrow, as per normal. 'Til here, good luck for all band mates on your common test and study hard!!=)

Hey there people, band members!
Sorry for taking so long updating this blog.
But for sure, starting from today, I will be updating every week about our band.
So far, we had normal practices on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 2.45pm to 7pm.
Yesterday, we had our 1st music exchange for this year with Chung Cheng High School Symphonic Band.
It was a worth while to be able to have sectional with them and I really hope WGSSB enjoy and benefited something from it! :)
This coming Saturday will be our SYF Rehearsal so be prepared band members!
For tomorrow and Thursday, Band Practice as usual.
We will not be having practice on ~~Wednesday~~(postpone to next Monday) due to Common Test Week.
So, study hard for the coming exams and prepare yourself for SYF, in April!
That's all I have for now. Will update again next week.

hi everyone sorry for not updating the blog for a period of time. There are some upcoming events which i want to tell you. Fristly our band alumni will be hending a concert this saturday on the 21 August 2010. it will be held in the Republic Poly at 7.30 to 9p.m ++.Thickets are already available and the price for non- band member is 12 dollars and the price for band members are 10 dollasrs. We hope that each pf every one of us would attend this concert to give our fully surport to our alumnies. Seconday there will be a 2 day band day camp during our september holidays . hope you all will exicited to attend this camp. Learn From Others

Hi Band, since the September holidays are coming up, I thought I'll post up an 'E-Music Lesson' here. :p

Lesson #1: Don't allow anyone to tell put you down.

The musicians in the above video are only primary school kids! Above that, there's only so few of them, and they are all playing without their music score! Yet none of them are afraid to play out. Be confident, strive to acheive your personal best this year, in band. You MUST improve and play better than you did last year. DARE to be different, DARE to be outstanding.

Lesson #2: MOVE FAST.

Have some sense of urgency and initiative. We can all save a lot of time, and get a lot more things done! :)

Lesson #3: Sometimes, the audience 'listen' with their eyes.

For others to enjoy the music you're making, you must first enjoy it! Look at the musicians in this video- It's evident that they are totally enjoying the music-making process! Let's put some thought into the attitude we bring to band, and aim to give off 101% of ourselves all the time!

Lesson #4: There is strength in numbers.

This piece of music is exactly the same as the one in Lesson #3. It is also played by the same band, except that the numbers have increased A LOT this time round. There is more strength when we put our hearts and minds together, to work towards a common goal. Can you feel the their band spirit soaring in the air as they perform?

Let's learn from others, and build our band culture together! :)

Hello people!

I'll be posting some important stuffs and some good 'noooooose'.

Firstly,
I shall summarise and repeat what i have said to you guys on monday. (24/8/09)

During band, sit up straight & appropriately
Sit 1/3 of your chair
Face the front
Do not figgit around
Do not talk
Listen with your ears WIDE open

These points will definitely make you a better musician and person. :D

Secondly,

Some of our secondary one band members are newly appointed school councillors! Make sure you perform your jobs well, and i hope you guys take initiative in band, somebody has and needs to start these little things first. Of course your seniors will lead you, but what if we are gone? So hope you understand. We will support you all the way!(:

I am proud to announce DEWI is the new Woodgrove idol 2009! CONGRATS! You should join Singapore Idol when you're older. ;D hahaha. okay that's all. :D bye

Alas, we'll be resuming band practices as of NEXT MONDAY, 20 July! Yay! :) Please fall in @ 2.45pm outside the band room. Let's start everything well- be on time! There's a lot to be done within the next few weeks. We've to prepare for the Annual Speech Day (date still not confirmed) & the National Day Celebrations in school. Percussionists, get ready to carry your drums and march! Start training now! =p

Also, the annual Band Fiestas are back! Please try to organise group/section outtings and attend the following performances happening free, @Singapore Botanical Gardens, Shaw Foundation Stage, 5-7pm. Have a picnic, bring some tidbits and enjoy an evening of music with your family & friends! Details are as follows:

Yikes, looks like we're getting really dusty and outdated here. So let's update things a little. First things first, let's be really really proud and happy for that SILVER award we clinched in SYF 2009! Bravo to all of you! Indeed your hard work has paid off. All that blood, sweat, tears... It's worth it yea? :)

I've collected lots of photos, I believe many of you have better shots than I do. So.. do send those pretty pictures around via MSN or facebook ya? Let's take a while to look back in time at some of the events that have happened over the past months...

I guess you all will agree with me that the many challenges and tests that we've faced as a band, and serves to make us stronger and more united as one. Indeed, nothing is impossible. If we all stand together, we can achieve anything! :)

Let's also not forget our beloved little juniors who have been training very hard while we were busy preparing for SYF. Many of them wished to be there on SYF day to send their regards and show their support for the main band. Indeed, they're your no. 1 fans! :) Good job juniors, and keep practicing yea? Soon it'll be your turn to do the school proud!

So.. what awaits before us for the rest of 2009? We've performances on speech day and the school's 10th year celebration dinner. Though they are in-school performances, they are great training grounds for us to breakthrough and learn from. Tone, rhythm, notes, articulation, dynamics, phrasing... in time, in tune, in feel.. there's so many things we need to do! We musicians are such good multi-taskers! :)

Ok, before I appear too long and naggy, let me send my deepest deepest appreciation to all the sec 4s/5s who are leaving us to concentrate on their national exams. Do remember that you'll always be a part of us, and we welcome your presence back anytime!

Alright, I shall end off by reminding EVERYONE who reads this long post that... EXAMS ARE HERE, and we need to strive to do our best! Let's show everyone that we, band members are equally dedicated and hardworking with our studies as we are with our music!

Hello! How was the carnival? I'm sure you guys had fun, I did. However, the carnival has eaten up one of our band pracs, so we have to make sure we make up for it by working super hard these few coming band practices alright? The attire for band camp is your FULL P.E attire. Packing list:(Band Tee-Shirt, School bottom, 2 sets of P.E attire, A set of casual clothes, Slippers, Toiletries, White long sleve shirt, Black boots/Court shoes, Sleeping bags, Writting materials and Water bottle(>500ml).)

From what I heard last thursday, I don't think the band sounds even alright. Brasses, we have wasted Mr Sim's 2hrs trying to balanced us for mvt 4 for the choice piece right after the woodwinds come in. Those who are to give way, GIVE WAY! You would not be awarded a award for standing out. Those who are to come out, do come out, you have all the support already, just come out, no worries! Personally think that was the main problem that thursday.

The band is out of tempo by alot for Overture no.1. When we aren't following the harmony director, we are out of tempo. When we are, all our dynamics are gone! They are what? Went under the table? There's no room for that in SYF. Soundcheck is this tuesday, the hall is said to be 'wet' by Mr Ng, meaning echo-y, making bands loose articulation. So we have to make it work! Keep listening and that should be fine.

22 days to SYF. Time is not on our side. With so much events in the school, it's not doing justice to us. But do the judges care? Hell no they don't. Guys, let's press on with faith and hope! We shall leave the stage with no regrets knowing we have done our best! All we have to do is to focus and stop forgetting things alright? Concentration level is always so low, there is no room for that. This band camp will be super packed with the sound check, tutorial session with Mr. Surapol Thanyawibool and an exchange with Marsling Concert Band. Just keep focusing! (:

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure everyone's rushing through their homework and all that this weekend but I just had a thought that I sort of the left this blog to rot for awhile. :X My fault, so here I'm to dust it off.

I want to talk about the most recent music exchange we had yesturday(7/3). I'm sure everyone is aware with how we actually did. I would share with you guys how I did and the word to describe it was horrendous. Yeah. We thought we did well at the school hall last saturday(28/2) and we assumed we will be facing the same acoustics and such at the auditorium at SJI. We were really wrong.

I guess everyone was nervous but this is a cruel fact that SCH which we will be going there soon for our sound check is much larger and people watcing us won't be just our alumni and those schools who we are so intimidated by. It's 7 internationally well known judges who I believe really does know what music is. Different schools, better or worse who will be judging you. Your teachers, principal and higher authority in Woodgrove who had placed so much hope on you. I guess it's something we have to overcome. I have to admit I was really nervous too, so that's something I have to over come too, together with you guys. [:

It's approx. three weeks to SYF already. Sec 4/5s, this SYF will be our last. It's gonna mean alot. It's either we start a gold streak for this band or we continue the silver one or we break it by getting a bronze maybe just because we were too nervous or too complacent. Sec 3s, your first and also maybe your last SYF, are you gonna cherish it? It's an opportunity of a lifetime! Sec 2s, You may have one more chance, but if you slack this off.. how sure are you to 'make it happen' two years later?

When I was sec 2, it was my SYF year. This time of the year, I know it's not like what's happening now. I came for sectionals everyday. Looking through the score everyday, making sure I find something new in the score everyday. Every single music exchange made me broke down. Realising how many mistakes I have made yet again. Making me fall and the rush to get up and climb higher each time. I wasn't musically talented I would say, but I actually think I did well for SYF.

Despite the silver which wasn't expected, I was proud. Yes, I was dissapointed but the feeling, how do I say it? It just felt extremly good that I actually conquered Heroic Saga! How does this relate to you? Up to how you want to work through these few weeks or what. For all I know, I still have alot to learn and I'm definitely not wasting my secondary life away like that. I'm going to make a mark! Are you?

Remember this? This was awarded a silver in 2007. It was grade 7! We are dealing with a grade 4.5 now. Of course we can sound better then this and achieve something shinier. If we don't, there must be a serious problem.

As you realised how long my post is and that might be like 217324x spelling errors, I hope you guys understand what I'm trying to say. And of course, a belated extended welcome to the sec1s! Welcome sec1s to Woodgrove Symphonic Band where we fire together and wire together! No doubt, we are a force to be acknowledged!(This sounds like the NCC slogan, I just realised. :x)

Hi ,bandmates! Exams are over, yeah! How were the results? Congrats to those who did well, 加油 and press on to those who are unsatisfied with their results. With the examinations over, we can put our studies aside first and concentrate in making great music!

The list of holiday practices have been issued, here's it.

Do turn up for these practices, especially those involved in the music exchange to Perth, Australia. The other bandmates who are not going, don't feel like being left out! We have the central judging to work together for, everyone in band is important. We shall practice hard for future events! I believe that nobody wants the same tragedy we have this year right? In order to prevent any regrets & disapointment for Mr Sim again, start to work hard now!

Yo! It must be a very eventful week huh? Congratulations to our Clarinet and Percussion ensemble for achieving the 1st and 3rd places for the 2nd N7 Cluster Instrumental Competition. I believe it was a very proud moment! :D The efforts these two groups have put in for the previous few weeks is very commendable!

I found out also that the 40 people for the Perth Music Exchange have been choosen. Many of you guys will feel disapointed that you are not choosen. Please do not feel that way, you are not not good enough or anything like that. It's just because there was this 40-people-constrain. That's why. Even so, we will be working together to achieve best results in Perth and SYF 2009 right?

I have no intentionn of bring up the whole emo thingum but do remember what happened this sibf. I'm pretty sure you guys wouldn't want to go Perth to throw our faces in another continent and march towards Singapore Confrence Hall to do another round of face throwing right? So arh, we have to make this work! SYF choice piece is out already, we need good attendence to make this work.

It wouldn't be easy but we have to make it work! Now we have to turn on the competition mode already! Sectionals, listen to your SL, help each other. Combines, work well with Mr Sim and listen. Do self practices, listen to the recording. Think about what does the composer wants to achieve by a certain way of the music played. We will make it work! (:

Hey guys! On tuesday(19/8) after the assembly program, The Woodgrove Clarinet Ensemble took the stage by performing 'Clarinet Polka' for the school! I believe everyone was as delighted as me to see them on stage! :P Anyway, thanks to the clarinetists on their splendid performances.

The Woodgrove Percussion Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble and Bassline Ensemble will be competing in the 'N7 Cluster Instrumental Competition 2008' next monday(25/8). Let's give them all the surport we can! :D Ms Seow will also be performing in "The Philharmonic Winds goes POP" this sunday(24/8). Remember to go surport her yeah!

In the previous band practice, we have gotten another new piece 'Armed forces on Parade'. (Do correct me if I'm wrong. It's a marching song. Pretty cool, can't wait for next year's NDP already, even though it's like another year. The band is able to sight-read the piece quite well, quite an improvement, keep it up! I currently have recordings of all songs Mr Sim mentioned we will be playing for the Perth trip, so you guys can get from me. That's all.

Hey guys, I "finished" this layout much earlier than I expected. I'm using IE 7.0 and there are alot of bugs already. I'm suspecting Fire Fox will have more bugs and such. So do report to me if you suspect any bugs in the coding. I will also wish that you guys will be patient with this. This is one more the most complicated stuff I'm coding. Oh! SLs, I will need you to submit namelists of your section. Full name yeah.

There's band tomorrow as usual, 3 o'clock fall in. In band tee also. Remember what Aaron told you guys about him trusting you guys in attire. Don't disapoint him. Hey guys! Common tests are over! Let me start the post by thanking the percusion section of their outstanding contribution to the school's National Day Parade last friday(8/8). It was great! Also wanting to thank Li Jun for her fantastic fanfare, it was a great display of bravery! ;) Also our Drum Major, Aaron, for his cool maze display! Great job guys! :D

Also sorry for not keeping the blog alive, it wasn't easy for me after the results and the commontest. But I will work very hard to keep this blog alive. I'm starting to make a new layout for this website. I tried to have alot of colours but I end up using montone colours(again). I promise the third layout will be a colourful one alright? The coding of it might take a few days. Since it's the weekend, I might have it up tomorrow. Latest by next saturday.

I believe it's going to be a very stressful phrase for the band and also a transforming period for the secondary 2s. It's going to be hard but we are going to make it!
